Imperial Garden, the bar at Sant Jordi Hostels in Lisbon, has been recently featured in Time Out Lisbon magazine, not just mentioned—but on the cover of the edition! This recognition comes after years of dedication, creativity, and passion in providing a unique experience to both guests and locals in the Anjos neighborhood.
How the Time Out contact happened
The approach from Time Out came just a few days before the magazine’s release. The editorial team reached out to learn more about the space, noting that the bar was becoming a key entertainment spot in Anjos and that readers were frequently mentioning it.
A visit was arranged on a quiet day, allowing the team to enjoy the space, try cocktails and tapas, and experience the Imperial Garden firsthand. During the visit, they learned about the history of Sant Jordi Hostels, the bar’s concept, its evolution, and the vibrant experience it now offers.
“The Time Out team was very impressed with the space and mentioned that they had heard about us through their readers, who highlighted Imperial Garden as a unique spot in the neighborhood,” says the bar’s manager.
From a small bar to a local reference
For the Imperial Garden team, this recognition is a huge source of pride. What began in 2019 as a small improvised bar inside the hostel, with just a few tables and a counter, has grown into a multicultural, sophisticated, and lively spacewhere guests and locals can connect and unwind.
“I never imagined we would make the cover. Seeing Imperial Garden in such an influential magazine is incredibly exciting and meaningful, a reward for all the effort over these years,” shares the manager.

Learnings and perspective
The success of Imperial Garden reflects the value of transforming an idea into a shared experience. “This recognition is the result of identifying a need for our guests and creating a space for enjoyment and connection, not only among travelers but also with the local community,” explains the manager.
The project has also been full of learning experiences: running a bar comes with challenges, but passion and the support of Sant Jordi Hostels have been essential for its success.

Looking to the future
The future of Imperial Garden is full of exciting plans. The team aims to keep innovating, offering themed events, and solidifying the bar as a cultural hub in Lisbon.
Additionally, Sant Jordi Hostels is preparing the launch of a new hostel in Porto, which will feature another Imperial Bar, with the goal of achieving the same recognition and becoming a national reference point.
“Our goal is for the Imperial Bar in Porto to gain the same recognition we have today and become a key reference in Portugal,” concludes the manager.
