Our “Barcelona – Extraordinary and Just Plain Cool” series highlights some of the hidden gems of Barcelona: places off the beaten path that are uniquely Barcelonès and extraordinarily cool.

For something extraordinary and just plain cool in Barcelona check out the Gran Bodega Saltó. Originally a typical Bodega (wine cellar) from the 1930’s, today the Gran Bodega Saltó is anything but typical.

What is so cool about the Gran Bodega Saltó?

A mix between neighborhood café, antique wine cellar and modern art gallery, Gran Bodega Saltó is a cozy Barcelona curiosity with a vanguard and retro décor. To put it simply, it is a very unique location with an interesting atmosphere, lively décor, inviting staff and it exudes a sense of individuality. It is a true hidden gem in Barcelona – the perfect place to relax, people-watch and truly experience the reality-show that is contemporary Catalan culture.

At Gran Bodega Saltó they specialize in fine wines. Check out their outstanding wine selection and have a vino tinto. No worries though, if wine is not your thing, you can always have a beer, a cocktail or just a cup of coffee or coke. Also take the opportunity to try something new. At Gran Bodega Saltó the anchovies, boquerones and olives are amazing.

How to get to Gran Bodega Saltó from our Hostels in Barcelona

We actually have a hostel in Barcelona that is just around the corner from Gran Bodega Saltó. If you happen to be staying at our Sant Jordi Mambo Tango hostel all you have to do is go left out the front door of the hostel, walk up our street to the first street you come to, c/ de Blai and go left. Continue down c/ de Blai for 3 blocks, until it turns into c/ de Blesa and you will see Gran Bodega Saltó on the left.

If you are coming from one of our other Barcelona hostels, the best way is to come by metro to the Parallel metro stop. When you come out of the metro, heading up the street Avinguda Parallel, turn left on c/ d’En Fontadora. Walk up c/ d’En Fontadora 4 blocks until you come to c/ Blesa and turn right. Gran Bodega Salto wil be on the left hand side.
